The Smart Garden Review – How to Grow your own Vegetables Indoors

Hello!

Having an indoor garden might not be something you’ve been thinking about. Maybe you’ve always grown houseplants but not vegetables in your home. When I was researching how to grow your own vegetables indoors, I came across this company. Click and Grow have Smart Gardens that can grow fresh, vegetables, herbs and fruits anywhere in your home.

This indoor garden growing system works similar to a coffee pod but for plants. You use soil pods to grow the plants. These Smart Garden products are calibrated for automated watering, nutrients and light systems. They have more than 50 varieties of plants to choose from or you can use your own seeds.

How the Smart Garden Works

Using this type of garden is pretty simple.  Insert the plant pod in the plant cup then add germination dome (these create the greenhouse effect). The domes would need to be removed once the plant starts to sprout. You will want to name your plant if your are planting more than one thing. Add water to the tank of the Smart Garden. These gardens need to be plugged in for the lamp to work. These lamps use LED light and only uses 8 W to 13 W of power, depending on which size you get.  Once it’s plugged in the lamp has an automatic timer which cycles 16 hours on and 8 hours off. You may not want this in your bedroom unless you coordinate the timer to your awake hours. Most plants sprout within 1 to 2 weeks. Here is 3 different Smart Gardens in my review.

This garden is smaller of 3 gardens.

Product width size 1′; product depth 5″ and product height 8″ to 1′ 7″, the light has arm extensions to adjust the lamp.

  1. HI Chris. Very interesting article. I always loved the idea to have my own healthy food for family, but without garden its not so easy. To be fair I have never heard before about Smart Garden product, but looking on your review it seems as a great solution to grow vegetables inside. Int incredible how new technologies can support us, and Im looking forward to test their products in practice.

  2. Hi, I know these smart gardens have been around for a while now. I never took the plunge with any of these as they are a little pricey and we have plenty of outdoor space to grow veg which we do and we are mostly successful, when we can keep the squirrels and the groundhogs at bay. While I am sure smart gardens make sense for someone living in an apartment, you didn’t mention the cost of running these smart gardens. I’m sure on a small scale this is not an issue but on a larger scale, I am sure it would be. The lights and the watering mechanism must consume some electricity. I know this may be a bit of nitpicking but after all the sun is a free source of energy and electricity isn’t. Anyway, I am sure if our circumstances were different we would have some of these, certainly for tomatoes and green beans. Best regards, Andy

    • Thank you for your comments!  Of course having sun is the best.  These would be great for an apartment, condo or someone with not much sun coming in their home.  I am not sure on how much it would be to run but they are LED lights which are cheap to run, they only use 8 watts to 13 watts electricity, depending on the size, this is a great option if you want to have an indoor garden using a Smart Garden.

  3. This idea is excellent, especially for young men who are starting an independent life. If they want to please the girl, it is a big surprise when you bring a girl to your home for dinner and pinch freshly made pasta, such as basil and parsley growing in this bright garden.

  4. Hi there, Chris! This is an interesting article. These days I’ve been very interested in growing vegetables and fruits. These grow at home tools could not have come at a better time! I have heard of hydroponics before and it seems like this follows the same technology? I have a friend who visited a hydroponics facility and noticed there is a fan blowing on the vegetables and he mentioned that it was to help the vegetable grow strong and sturdy instead of plump. Would a fan or something similar be necessary when one purchases a smart garden?

    • Hi Mike,

I guess it would depend on what you are growing.  If it’s something that is going to produce a vegetable the stalk will need to support a fan would help.  It would simulate being outside with the wind,  If you are growing lettuce or spinach in a smart garden I don’t think a fan would be necessary.  Good question, thank you for your comments
